T.M.H Method and Books
In his first book A modern approach to violin virtuosity T.M.H.
presents exercises on each string separately. For the first time in the
history of violin playing we are presented with a system where all intervals and
shifts are fully explored. The traditional scale systems (C.Flesch, I.Galamian)
are supplemented with all conceivable note connections. This makes for a unique
accuracy and control on the fingerboard.
A Modern Approach to Violin Virtuosity
With his last book The Geometric All Interval System we can
realize the common dream of most string players to be able to carry out
all possible intervals and shifts with the same degree of accuracy. The new
system is based on regular geometric patterns covering all intervals within the
two octaves zones on the strings.
The new system starts where the traditional scale and study repertoire ends,
focusing directly on long distance shifts, free tonally connected notes, and
challenges in the highest register. A universe of new aural and gymnastic
challenges are created. With this new way of organizing, visualizing and
memorizing the map on the fingerboard, our playing in positions is supplemented
with a fantastic panoramic view, and an overall impression of the register. Step
by step the safety zone in the lower positions expands to cover the whole fingerboard. The
new exercises prepare the modern violinist for the complete
violin repertoire. This creative system makes for a unique freedom and control on
the fingerboard, improved sight-reading and faster learning of new repertoire.
